My mom is sad.

Ike's mom here: I started my new job at the humane society the other day and was absolutely miserable, and I'm not staying there. Their standards for what is considered an "adoptable" animal differ greatly from my standards and there is no way I can go through with selecting animals for adoption and sentencing the other to well, you know where they go. I cleaned kennels at the humane society in college quite a few years ago when it was run by a different organization and we did everything possible to get animals placed through the shelter or other rescue organizations that could work on their problems to help them become adoptable (of course the truly aggressive animals weren't eligible for adoption.) I based my decision to pursue this job based on those experiences - little did I know that times have changed and "temperament evaluations" have become the norm. So I'm back on the market - if anyone knows of anything in the vet tech or other animal related field in the Twin Cities area, let me know. In the mean time, I'm going to work on my business plan for pet sitting and dog walking.

Ike here - send good vibes my mom's way so she can get a job that is a good fit for her because she is really sad because she has been wanting this humane society job for years and it turned out to suck and I feel really bad for her except she will be home with me for a little while now.

And this is a picture of how my mom feels right now.

I'm sorry Ike and Ike's mom. I had no idea it was like that at the Humane Society. Is it the same at the SPCA?

Awww. That sounds rough. Hopefully you will find something soon, we'll send out good vibes up there! Our mom found our Pet sitter on the internets and this is her web site:
http://preciouspawspets.tripod.com/

We love her to death and just met with her one time. It gets a little expensive but it is worth it to be able to not have to go anywhere strange for too long, and we love heather she always plays with us and leaves really long handwritten notes about how good we were when mom and dad go away.

Our mom just thought of something else, not sure what the pay is like, but she considered becoming a Pet trainer at PetSmart (or another doggie training area), we loved out trainer at the class we took and she told us they use a mentoring program there to train the trainers. She happens to be a Pet Sitter as well, so she meets a lot of clientele through the classes as everyone always asks if they know anyone who pet sits.

I'm so sorry Ike's Mom...sending lots of Ruby kisses your way. Bentley & Niko's Mom had some good ideas. Everything happens for a reason is what my Mom always says...so there must be a reason for this too! Things will get better and I am crossing my paws for you!

Lots of Licks, Ruby

Oh man. I really feel for your ma. Here our Humane Society is no kill and they do a really great job of contacting rescue organizations for dogs who need more help behaviorally. But my ma still cries if she has to go to the SPCA where they DO have death sentences. She's really good for wanting to put her skills to work for the neediest dogs. It's a shame the organization wasn't the right place to do it. Sigh. Poor Ma. We dogs DO appreciate people like you.

OH NO, your poor mommy. That makes me and mommy sad too, knowing that shelters will kill doggies and kitties just because they can't be adopted.

Your mommy is such a nice person, I bet she'll find the perfect job that makes her happy.

We're so sorry Ike's mom. I'm sure it can be very stressful dealing with animals in this situation. We hope you find the job of your dreams soon!

Aw, I'm sorry Ike's mommy. My mom also finds it difficult to work with animals in that kind of situation because she's such an aninmal lover.

Sometimes I think those evaluations are so stupid. I mean, so what if a dog is food agressive? Wouldn't you just make sure he wouldn't go to a home w/other dogs or children? There's no reason to end his life...

I hope you find a job soon, and good luck starting your own!

Puggy kisses

Coincidentally, I was looking for a "dog related job" for my wife today and stumbled upon this website www.indeed.com.
I just read this post and did a search for vet tech in st. paul (I hope that's right for the twin cities) and a couple of openings are listed. One is Banfield Pet hospital. Don't know if this helps at all. But good luck!
