Pearly Whirly.

So my auntie dog, Pearl, was diagnosed with bone cancer yesterday, and that makes me really sad. My grandma and grandpa are trying to decide whether to amputate her leg at the hip or just manage her pain, but everyone says the tumor is more painful than the amputation. Does anyone have any experience with osteosarcoma and any advice?
Please send healing vibes Pearl's way.
This is Pearl.

  3. I'm so sorry to hear about Pearly. A close friend of mine had her greyhounds leg amputated after the same diagnosis and he lived another 4 years. And it's amazing how well they adapt to life on 3 legs. He never missed a beat.

  5. We are very sorry to hear about Pearl. We will purr and woof for her. When Mommy had to take Vincent Who Came Before to the vet for his cancer treatments (different kind of cancer), she saw several woofies who did quite well on 3 legs. We don't know what Pearl's health is like otherwise, but we have heard that even with drugs that the pain from osteosarcoma can be pretty overwhelming.

  8. Aw, look at Pearl. She's a beautiful diva like me. I have no idea about that kind of stuff (paws crossed), but I sure hope that whatever they decide makes Pearl feel loads better.

  11. Hey Ike!

I'm sorry about Pearl. I didn't have a dog with osteosarcoma, but I have seen Jerry the dog's website about his journey...

And Finnegan on DWB is an Irish Wolfhound who had a leg amputated, too. I'm not sure of his site name though.

    Good luck to Pearl!

  13. Oh, I"m very sorry for poor Pearl. She looks a lot like my sissy Morgan. Do you know Finnegan the Wolfie? He has had osteosarcoma and is currently in relapse. :( He has some good links on his page:

  16. Hey Ike,
Man, I'm sorry to hear about Pearl. My big bro, Herkamur had the cancer, but it was in his butt and they couldn't amputate that. Pearl will be in our thoughts.

  19. Dexter here!

Pearl is so lovely. What a difficult decision. Momma says it depends which leggie it is (front or back). In the meantime, I will send my little pee-wee zen to her.
